Default Another reel seat question

You can put some electricians tape on the bottom of the reel foot and trim
it off with a razor blade. Try one thickness at a time till it fits right.

Some years back the fly fishing reel feet and fly rod reel seats where set
to an industry standard.

These used to fit better, and both the rod and reel were purchased
within the past 6 years so they should be up to whatever the 'standard'
is. I can easily figure out a way to accommodate it, but I'm really
wondering what would make it deteriorate. If I put tape or a spacer on
the reel or rod without figuring out the cause, the problem will just
get worse. I can imagine the entire handle falling off on a cast one
day unless I find out whats going on.
