If size is an issue you can get 12V 4AH gell cells instead. They are only
slightly larger than a lantern battery.

Just get a couple 12V 7AH Gell Cell batteries. Any alarm company will
have
them. You can get them from radio shack or order them from a number of
on-line vendors including Cabelas. They will outlast your trip no problem.
