Even for standup fishing. I typically stand as close to the front of the
casting deck as I can, and face one side or the other more than directly
forward.

Do the same. The Antique Kitten has a recessed TM pedal and it seems to
work just fine for me that way. I just switch which foot I am using to
control it.
