Default Another reel seat question

There are several possible reasons.

On some reel seats the upper reel foot holder begins to move further
up the reel seat after a while. I have never heard of one actually
falling off, but it makes it more and more difficult to secure the
reel properly.

Secondly, the reel foot holders are tapered. Screwing the reel in
tight every time, widens the tapers, and one is obliged to tighten
even more the next time, etc. Eventually the tapers are so widened
out, that they do not hold the reel foot at all, and it is merely held
by the force applied by the up-locking screw-ring. This is also
easily seen, if the tapers are widened ( which is almost certainly
your problem), then the reel will "wobble" from side to side, right up
until the final tightening of the screw, which however, basically only
locks the tips of the reel feet.

If you use tape or similar to try and help this problem, donīt put it
UNDER the reel feet, as this merely exacerbates the problem. For a
semi-permanent and easy fix, put a coat of epoxy on the TOP SIDES of
your reel feet. Also, use less force when locking your reel in future.

The only other solution is to change the reel seat.
