About a year ago, my mom was visiting and asked for a demononstration on
fly tying. I grabbed the first scraps I found on my desk and tied this.
Size 8 Mustad 3261, peacock for the tail and body, metallic silver thread,
and small black mono eyes. I had no intention of using it, but it ended up
in one of my boxes anyway. The rainbows and brookies loved it. Could
anyone tell me why fish might like this monstrosity? I don't even know
what it could be classified as. It floats like a dry until it gets chewed,
then fishes almost like a wet. Any thoughts?

It is the peacock herl. Fish can't resist it. One of my favorite garbage
flies is a light tinsel body wrap and a few long pieces of herl positioned
as hackle. I suppose it looks like a big furry spider but the fish just
simply mob and maul it.
