OK, I got the ball rolling with my reply to BJ...so what is
everyone's/anyone's favorite Herter's stuff, good, bad, or nonsensical,
fishing, hunting, or general sporting goods?

I love my "Professional Fly Tying and Tackle Making Manual and
Manufactureers' Guide " wherein he claims all things good for the
Herter family and almost all things non-Herter as being crap. Has many
great original fly recipes. I also have an old Herter's fiberglass rod
(7' 9" E weight line) that is fun to cast. Probably a kit built but
done very well with nice components.

I've got all of my Uncle Dick's old Herter's gear for fly tyin' and the
original (1930s or 40s) book/manual of fly fishin' how tos and how not tos.
It's a comical read. George Herter hated the English, apparently, as he bad
mouth' their fly fishin' method, gear, and anything else throughout the
book. It does have a good deal of interesting and informative material in
it though.

My Uncle Dick bought all of his Herter's gear when he was stationed in
Alaska with the USAF, in 1959. I still have several of his original spools
of black thread and a very nice assortment of colored silk floss, as well.

Ebay has pics of some of the stuff I received from Uncle Dick:
