Well, Wednesday morning bright and early I'll be getting up, jumping in the
ol' truck and heading west on a "little" 1700 mile jaunt. My
friend/cameraman Gil and I are going to spend the next ten days or so
chasing black bears with Ridgerunner Outfitters. I can't wait.
I've done most of my bear hunting previously in Canada, so this trip is
going to be great. Because it's a two bear area, I'm going to try for one
with my bow and then see if I can take one with my .44 mag revolver. The
outfitter told me that there's a high incidence of color-phase bears in the
area and that last week one of his hunters took a 6'4" chocolate bear. The
neat thing is that he said they missed a chocolate with dark legs that was
even bigger! I want to meet up with that bad-boy......
Another cool thing is the outfitter has a 13 year old daughter that hunts.
She's going to try for a bear while we're there too, and hopefully we'll get
that on video tape too. I think it would make for a great show to see a
cute little girl bag a good bear.
We're going to do some traditional treestand/bait hunting and we're also
going to do some spot/stalk from horseback.
This is going to be fun. I'll be back in a couple weeks. Now I have to
start packing........
