It sounds like the drag might be reversed. Is the drag adjustable?

It would help if you mention the mfg/model of the reel...

do I need to remove the triangle pin or just adjust it. I use a left
hand retrieve and it is probably set for a right hand...

That's a current reel - the only single action fly reel Shakespeare sells.
The "drag" is a simple on-off affair, no adjustment needed ;-) but their web
site claims it is reversible.

Think I got it. I reversed the click spring so it and it now reels in
easier and pulls out with more resistance..
