Sorta makes a boy nostalgic for the good old days (say, circa 1969 or
thereabouts) when he could just walk across......at any time of year.

Of course if TBone's scheme could be made to work,
Someone posted a message over on alt.great-lakes yesterday containing the
transcript of a news article (and a URL to the original) about the
alarmingly low level of Lake Superior. It seems there are a lot of folks
out there convinced that the water is already being being pumped out west
somewhere.
Things like lower than normal rainfall, increased evaporation and other
environmental factors don't make much of an impression on some people. But
then, living in a desert doesn't make much of an impression on some people.
you could walk across again, as all the water would be in Colorado, Utah,
Arizona, etc. where it would obviously have more value than where it is
now.
Yep. They could raise alewives.
And think of all the additional arable land that would become available,
not just in the former desert areas, but in the newly exposed lake beds.
The trouble is that with reduced recharge in the Great Lakes area, Erie
would have to be irrigated.
Hm........maybe we could get Colorado to send us some of their excess.
Yeah.....this could work! Okay, sure, it's downhill all the way, so we'd
have to pump it, but still.......
(and just in case there is someone out there that needs this) 8)
Now you're just confusing people.
