anyone use one on a 3wt? Wondering if it would be too heavy.
5.4oz.
Thanks,
Brian
Not sure what you mean by "too heavy." It's simply a matter of personal
preference, but I'd offer that one who had chosen a 3 wt. would
seemingly want to chose a smaller, lighter reel - hey, as always, YMMV -
but if one were given one or both and had no choice, then it would do no
"harm" to the rod to use it. You may be another story, depending on
amount of use and your ability to set things up. If I may - why the
question?

Well, I got a gift certificate for Cabelas and ordered a three forks
3wt. Have a few reels lying around and wondered if the 1494 matched
with the rod, it's the smallest that I have right now.
Ah. Smallest, lightest, or both? IMO, it isn't gonna make an ideal
combo because it'll probably be impossible to balance, and if you are
doing a lot of casting, it could potentially make things uncomfortable.
OTOH, if you're fairly fit of wrist and arm, and are simply doing some
rolling and flicking, it probably won't matter much at all. The good
thing is that to use a 3 wt. as it was generally intended, the reel is
little more than a line storage device, and as such, you'd be
hard-pressed to find a reel that wouldn't work fair enough - IOW, just
about _any_ small reel you can find will work, including a Walmart
special Martin, Asian Medalist/knockoff, etc.
Guess I'll just wait till it comes and try it out.
And perhaps be on the lookout for a light, inexpensive reel.
But I thought I would ask. I have no idea what "YMMV" means
I'm guessing "your motive may vary" or "yearly murdering my
virtuosity"...please enlighten.
Yaks make marvelous vermicelli...of course, on that, your mileage may
vary...
