I'm refering to the initial post by Bob on Orvis being so expensive.
If you wanna wear the name, you gotta pay the price. Does John Deer
make a better tractor, no, but they have a name many farmers want to
have on their tractors. When Perkins sales team sets their prices for
their latest catalog, they know their stuff doesn't cost more to
manufacture then Cabellas, or LL Bean. They also know that some will
pay the price to wear/carry the Orvis name. So, they price
accordingly. I have alot of Orvis gear. I was told long ago by a man
I highly respect, that it's the best. So, now I'm hooked and won't
break away even though I can't really afford it.

You buy stuff you can't afford for the name? And you do it knowingly? You
