I goop mine up with "Hot sauce" crawdad scent.
The trick for me is to let the bass have this bait and not "pop" set the
hook like a plastic worm. I set the hook more with a strong sweeping motion.
I know what you mean however. The hooksets are not as "for sure" as with
other baits.
I like the 4" bait because it tends to get me bigger fish.
