A few weeks ago I served as the "boater" for a youth club tournament.
Basically I took a 13 year old and his father fishing and tried to
help him out. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it - I would not do
anything like that involving kids as long as I worked in education and
avoided it since I retired.
Anyway - I liked it enough I have talked my two clubs into sponsoring
a youth club here. Two other members helped out in that tournament
and they wanted to start one, too. The Bass Chapter Federation helps
organize them as does BASS and FLW. We are having an organizational
meeting next Tuesday.
Anyone have any experience with youth clubs - any suggestons?
My kid finished 2 in his age group and 3rd overall in the tournament.
Only kid to beat him in the 11 - 15 age group was the national
champion last year in that age group - Dillon Peppers.
In these tournaments we will require parents ride with kids younger
than 16 - the club is open to 11 to 18 year olds.
Anyone in the middle Georgia area is welcome to attend and join. Kids
can fish with relatives and club members will provide boats for kids
that don't have a family member with one.
I think it will be fun.
