A depressing Christmas Gift
In article ,
says...
My wife gave me a set of pocket knives last night, I must have at least
30 pocket knives "left", I do loose them on a regular bases. For 15
years I sold knives as a hobby (I stopped over 10 years ago), selling
around 15,000 dollars worth a year, of every brand, so I know knives.
Well she gave me a set of Buck knives, three of them, in a tin box, then
she told me she paid $30.00 for the set,, I of course said that could
not be, that set should have cost a minimum of $100.00, I then closely
inspected the box,, in very small print I found "these knives are made
to "Buck" specifications in China"
It was like someone just shot my dog. Not her giving me the set of
knives,, but they had "Buck" on them . I would have been a thousand
times happier if the had "Chinese folders" on the box, and stamped on
the blades.
For a US company, known for it's quality, a knife you were proud to lend
to someone, so they knew you carried a BUCK as your everyday knife, to
now be a cheap, near slave labor produced knife,, well, is just
disappointing.
Of course these knives were bought in the China store, Wal-Mart
I just hope they still make Bucks in the US, the "real" Bucks sold in
sporting goods stores ?????????????
They still tout their plant in Idaho:

but they also use foreign manufacturers also:
"...we have also sought foreign manufacturing assistance with some
product models."
"An American flag signifies that the knife is manufactured
domestically."
