We stayed at the Madison Campground in the late 1980's in June with a 26'
motor home. Is a nice location. Walk over and fish the Madison.

Much of "where's best" depends on specific needs and desires. I go to
"Greater Yellowstone" for several months, and fish more out of, than in,
the Park, and my needs reflect that.... a guy with three days to spend,
including playing tourist with the family, and that wants to be sure to
fish the Firehole, and Madison ( in Park) will like Madison campground
far more than myself, for instance.

One thing I've noticed about "advice" on ROFF and similar forums is that
it always reflects the givers point of view ( doh ) ..... it's the job of
the person asking to sort the info provided and figure that part out.

This is why the question should provide information needed to pin down an
answer.

Where is "best" to camp for Yellowstone fishing varies widely with time of
the year ( after July 1 the Madison and Firehole are usually dead until
Fall ) and what an angler defines as "yellowstone fishing" .... some
guys never get into the Park on a trip to "yellowstone" ... fishing the
lower Madison the whole time, for instance.

For a couple day visit to the park with the family Madison is a good
location. Not necessarily the best fishing location, but very convienent
for some fishing, between sightseeing.
