Great - another waste of money, that we don't have that our children
and their children can pay back. Silver Falls is a nice state park but
hardly in the same league with Yosmite, Crater Lake etc.
Ditto for Mt. St Helens. St Helens is pretty limited in what you can
do there. You can drive up and look at the mountain ( about 2 days
out of 5 ) or look at the inside of a cloud while trying to look at
the mountain. It wasn't that interesting before the mountain blew -
up, now there is even less access.
I would be in favor of St Helens if they would let people hike up to
and in the crater. The trouble with america today is we shield to
many people from Darwins Law. To many stupid people survive and
breed.
Hmmh, I guess you missed the dozens (hundreds?) of miles of spectacular
hiking trails all over the back country and the trail that circles the
mountain above timber line as well as the possibility of climbing to the
summit from the south side. Or perhaps those opportunities didn't
impress you. A substantial portion of the reason people aren't allowed
in the crater is safety but just as important is the desire to preserve
the landscape for scientific research. I realize that might not be a
potent political argument for you or the rest of the electorate but it
sure means a lot to those of us that do research out there.
