if you can get a half way decent connection....say 40+kbs...you should be
able to do voice okay...if the other person has high speed, it works even
better...chances are, in Chile, there are many internet cafe's...he pays
buy the minute or hour to use a system in the cafe....at the cafe, he can
get all the advice he needs so he won't have a problem, plus, he will have
high speed anyway.

All you will have to do is arrange a time to be online at the same
time...the cafes are very inexpensive..like less than a buck an hour....If
he's on high speed and you can get a half way decent dial up....it might
work...

the cost of a cafe for him....two or three or four times a month would be
cheaper than him getting a laptop and paying for the internet
connection....

My connection here is dismal ... the little dealie in the tray say 26.4 Kbps
( it will take me two hours+++ to download the Skype software just to try )

My kid has to have the laptop for other aspects of his work and will be at a
University so is likely to have the fast connection available.

I'm told there is a 5 hour difference between there and here ( hard to
believe, we're all 'on the right coast' g ) so maybe my wife could visit a
cafe here ( or use the connection at work ) to talk to him late in her day,
since it would be 5 hours later for him

Regardless of what end(s) used a cafe or other public broadband that is a
good idea ... thanks for bringing it up, as it hadn't occurred to me
