My connection here is dismal ... the little dealie in the tray say 26.4
Kbps ( it will take me two hours+++ to download the Skype software just
to try )

My kid has to have the laptop for other aspects of his work and will be at
a University so is likely to have the fast connection available.

I'm told there is a 5 hour difference between there and here ( hard to
believe, we're all 'on the right coast' g ) so maybe my wife could visit
a cafe here ( or use the connection at work ) to talk to him late in her
day, since it would be 5 hours later for him

Regardless of what end(s) used a cafe or other public broadband that is a
good idea ... thanks for bringing it up, as it hadn't occurred to me



?Are you in the USA??? I haven't done the research but I don't believe
there is a five hour time difference....look up the time zones...

Here is something you might consider...YOU get yourself a laptop, a
cam...and at the appointed time you and the Mrs. take a trip to the big city
where you can visit a Panera Bread or a Starbucks or a Books and Company who
offer free Wi-Fi. (wireless internet...you'll need to get a card for that).

This will be a high speed internet connection, solve all of your download
problems and you can chat with the boy just fine....

Now this is the most important part...you know that she is going to be
online for two or three hours so it is critical that you pick a place with
good fishing nearby..
