Default I might have learned something today

I was watching the bassmasters Elite tournament this morning...not sure
when it was, but Kevin VanDam won it, his first win in Florida I think.
What amazed me was how he was almost violently jerking his bait up out
of the grass / weeds...I thought he was setting the hook on a fish. But
he explained what he was doing...really jerking the lure out of the
weeds, then letting it "swim" back down in them.

Weeds / grass are about the only cover here in this little lake, and I
have been doing the same thing, only with a small twitch type jerk
instead of that violent one he was using. So I decided to go out and try
it after the show ended. He was using a "red eyed silver shad" bait...I
didn't have one of those, so I selected a "Citrus Shad" that was the
same size.

I got up on a high bank, and casted down the weed bed, and started doing
that "jerk" like he was doing. On about the third jerk, on the drop, I
caught a nice 2 lber., in 30 minutes, I caught 4 more nice bass....maybe
that "kid" knows something!

I very rarely watch fishing shows, when they come on, I get antsy and
grab my rod off the front porch, and go fishing! But I'm glad I watched
that one...maybe I'll watch more of em!
