Default Slide Inn and West Yellowstone

This is sorta my second request re this topic
We will be there - in the area- eartly June for a week
A few days at the Slide Inn with the day or *before *@ Twin Bridges
I would like to meet the boo boys.

Some people on this list have commented before about this place
Can anyone give me or us any info or feedback on their experience(s) here or
in the area

Thanks in advance
Fred

i've only been there in early july, so no idea about hatches or fish in
early june. the slide has been upgraded a lot since i first went there a
few years ago. you now have to pay for the meal plan with a room. i
liked the location and the folks i met there...even a teevee/movie star
(a guy who was in dallas and some b movies). fishing was always superb.
* pricing has increased too much for my taste just now though.

still, i think the slide sits on some of the best fishing in the upper
madison. *kelly galloup and his crowd are terrific folks. *you'll need
to get used to kelly's understated, sardonic sense of humor. *don't
hesitate to ask him and the guys in the shop where to fish and what to
use...they know. also, the seemingly shallow braids of the river behind
the slide hold some big fish...even spots you'd think too shallow. *the
main river is fast coming out of the earthen dam just upstream...focus
on the edges and rocks, look for seams. *the big fish will be just off
the edge looking for stuff. i suspect nymphs/stonefly, and maybe some
big streamers will work best, but my friend warren has done well with
dries in june. *the shop reports about what is working are usually very
accurate. *i like starting at raynolds bridge and working the shore back
to the shop. *there is a great location in a big bend just up from the
bridge and in the area of some islands...don't hurry by that. *it's an
easy walk down from the slide on well-worn paths by the stream.

west yellowstone is a tourist ****storm with some excellent flyshops.
blue ribbon is my favorite solely because its owner and staff have been
uniquely kind and patient with this stupid southerner. go there only as
necessary for food, supplies, liquor, etc.

give the lower gibbon and the firehole a try in the park...

if you have any other questions, let me know. i can give an outsider,
once-a-year visitor's impressions.

What Jeff said. Don't neglect the water between Quake Lake and Hegben
Resevoir. Some great fishing there. Also, if you're fishing, as Jeff
mentioned, up from the bridge, the better fishing IMHO is on the lodge
side of the river. Some of those back waters in there hold some huge
fish.
If you have a float tube or pontoon boat, try a trip out on Quake lake
at night. Fish big streamers and frog/mouse patterns around the stump
field. There are some certifiable 20lb fish in there. That's the
only place I've ever used an 8wt for trout. And if you happen to have
a beaver slap the water three feet from your pontoon on a moonless
night, carry a clean up kit to get the mess out of your waders.
