OT Firesign Theater
We took along some DVDs to watch on the train from New Orleans.
Rather than watch "The Last Waltz" for the hundredth time I agreed
to sit through a Firesign Theater DVD. I've never been a fan but
my wife knows the dialogue by heart and often blurts it out before
the performers. At any rate I finally found out (sort of) what
caused her to burst into raucous laughter in front of a Winona,
Minnesota pizzeria. When I asked her at the time she just said,
"Nevermind, you wouldn't understand."
Winona is a small college town on the Mississippi and the place
I'd like us to retire to when the time comes. Madison, Wisconsin
is a much bigger place and no one thinks more highly of Madison
than the pretentious cheeseheads who live there. In Madison there
is a string of pizza places called Rocky Rococo's.
So the name of the pizzeria in Winona that had my wife doubled
over in laughter ? Betty Jo Bielaski's. I mean I still don't
quite get it but at least I know now it's one of those Firesign
Theater things.
