When I went to college 13 years ago (finished at 45)
I was frequently tutored in calculus by Yusef Ali,
my muslim friend from Kenya. Yusef learned math in a
schoolroom without windows. He was also the funniest
person I ever met....which blew that stereotype right out
of the desert. When I took him on a float trip down the Madison,
he said a fisherman's prayer in Swahili. And my wife caught
an 18" brown on the next cast. Yusef spent almost the whole
day breast-stoking 10' behind the boat, in clear cold water.

He's a black man so he didn't turn blue. But he must have
shivered enough to shake the bones out of a vampire.

He said: "It's such a pleasure to be able to swim in a river,
and not have to worry about crocodiles."

Later he told us he would be prime minister of Kenya someday.
It was written. And he was already planning it now. He was
going to make me Secretary of getting rid of all the white people.
