Default TR- Toothy Hunt

Spent the afternoon trying for tooths (pike and musky) on the Big
River. Waded parallel to the streambank casting to likely looking
ambush points. Only got a couple splashes in 4 hours of fishing, both
on big Divers. I tied up some Hyper-whistlers hoping they'd cast
better on the 10 weight. They did but its still a lot of work using
the heavy rod, I was bushed at the end. Just before I left I unlooped
the steel leader I was using and tied on 3 feet of 6lb. Maxima and
attached a Root Beer Ice Chenille bugger. Promptly caught a nice
smallie, which was much redder than they normally are in the Wisconsin
and which also had no trouble putting a nice bend in the 10 weight.
Was the reddish color a seasonal adaption to leaves on the river
bottom? Shortly thereafter it began to rain with a vengeance and I
beat a retreat home.
