I've been interested in the aftermath of Chernobyl since I first saw the
"kid of speed" essay a few years ago. You're quite correct that hers is
much more interesting (and in-depth), but for some reason, the more recent
pics reinforced the eerieness of the area. It's the whole ghost town
thing, I suppose -- life just stopped happening here. Unlike the abandoned
towns of, for example, the gold rush era or the Route 66 era in the US, in
the Chernobyl area, life literally stopped.
