Default barbless bought vs barbless bent

My question: IYourHO is there any reason to prefer bending down barbs on
traditional hooks over buying factory barbless varieties? Reverse?

Experiences to support your notions on this?

For simplicity and convenience's sake, I just buy the TMC SP-BL
("super point barbless") for tying my dry flies. I like the hook
style, they are extremely sharp, and I don't have to worry about
crimping down the barb.

They are more expensive than other hooks, but I don't mind spending
a bit more on hooks, as trying to "save" money there is a false
economy, IMHO.

FWIW, I too have heard the story of the warden using stockings to
check for barbs, but the version I heard was in Alberta, Canuckistan
when they first went barbless some years ago.
