yeah, I know kinda cold to be talking about traps up here in Michigan.
But I'm looking for a reel just for them, whats a good gear ratio and
why.

I cam't see where the gear ratio would make a lot of difference in
numbersd of fish caught unless either you have a tendency to fish to fast,
or you fish limited targets and then want to get the bait in fast to hit
the next target.

ie.

If you fish to fast you may want to consider a 5:1 reel. I use one on my
regular crankbait rod.

If you are fishing limited grassbeds where you cast to the target from a
distance, fish it, and then burn the lure in so you can hit the next
target quickly consider a 7:1 reel.

Otherwise I see no reason not to use the same 6:1 reel you use for
everything else. If you have good discipline and no major problems with
your hands or arms there isn't much you can't do with it.

All that being said. All my bait casters except 2 are the regular 6:1 or
whatever it is. I have one 5:1 for crankbaits, and one 7:1 for buzzbaits
(to surface it quickly only).
