Unless you really want the old fashioned look, I would use short
shanked hooks instead of the long ones on the originals. Those
long shanks cause a lot of leverage to work the hook out of the
fishes jaw.

If you really like the long body, I would tie a tube fly and rig
it ahead of a short shank hook.
