I had a couple at
the food pantry on Thursday driving a three year old BMW 5 series.
Should they be paying a higher toll than, say, The Handyman in his new
fishing car?
obviously, the measure of 'wealth' has evolved since Smith's time. Still,
it's strange days we're in when someone who thought they could afford a 5
series now feels they should benefit from the services of your food pantry.

The application of tax should not be on the material purchase but on the
use of that purchase. Some one who uses an expensive vehicle extensively
should pay more than one who uses one sensibly and conservatively.
