Default Campfire talk

On Mar 16, 3:54*pm, riverman wrote:
I know we liken chatter on roff to 'campfire talk', where anything and
everything is fair game, and we all get together in the morning and
cast a line, despite whatever flares up the night before, and bury
whatever hatchets were raised.

But sometimes, even campfire talk generates a lot of ill will, and the
fun that free speech generates is replaced by bonafide animosity that
does not go away with the hangover. Without the excuse 'it was the
whisky talking' or the healing cameradie and moment of clear-
headedness that a morning hike to a pool of rising trout generates, a
lot of bad feelings can germinate from angry discourse.

Several regulars have been absent lately, and several more are making
their way to the door. We can brush this off with casual dismissals
akin to 'if you can't stand the heat...', but I'm sure that more than
one of us has seen other newsgroups meet their demise for similar in-
fighting and malaise.

We used to have some ground rules (no families, etc), but it seems
that we have found new, insidious ways to step on toes that the rules
don't cover. Maybe we need more ground rules. Even campfire talks
sometimes need ground rules.

If we want ROFF to survive, we have to make a choice to preserve it.

Just wait and see what you hear about nose hairs!

It`s not the fighting and insults so much, although that is bad
enough, it`s the lack of fishing topics, and the pure boredom
engendered by people posting the sa,e old **** time after time. This
does not even take into account the total idiots who sre so far
removed form reality that they are simply preposterous.

Roffians are subject to falls,
and subjects are subject to palls,
and some like LaCourse,
try humour with force,
and count the spots on their balls.

Some think it isn't quite fair,
that some people still have some hair,
some in their ears,
and some on the rears,
and some on their heads, but that`s rare.

On ROFF, stupid **** is the norm,
on a level with public school dorm,
some with hands in their pants,
and ridiculous rants
which will always kick up a storm.

For some, ROFF is simply real,
and despite any person's appeal,
they keep posting ****e,
and don't care what is right,
or even how someone might feel.

When you ask such ****s to behave,
simply not to rant and to rave,
you might as well wish,
for a bloody big fish,
or anything else that you crave.

A velcro covered sawsall,
may be used for many a call,
but not for nose hairs,
as it may well cause tears,
and your nostrils rather inflated.

Nail shops and surgeons are slated,
by those who are not highly rated,
but monkeys they'll ****,
and some really suck,
even though others are sated.

So kum-ba-yah once a week,
is simply not for this clique,
they simply don't care,
good manners are rare,
and they treat you just like a freak.
