Dusting off my ROFF Voice - so WTF's up with Penns this year?

The Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend is the Muskie opener
in Northern Wisconsin. It's the best legal muskie fishing
of the year, (some folks fish for "northerns" during the
two weeks before the opener ;-). The week after Memorial
Day is prime topwater smallmouth fishing and excellent
dry fly fishing for trout in the yoop. On top of which it
is usually pre-bug, or at least pre really obnoxious biting,
buzzing, blood-sucking all-out war.
uh, ok.
I can't imagine why a dedicated midwestern fly fisher person
would drive all the way to Piddle****, Pennsylvania to fish
in the dark of the night during the last week of May or the
first week of June. Hell, if we want to fish in the dark we
can wait til mid-June when the Hex hatch.
your Hex hatch pales next to Penn's Drake hatch(I've seen both). Also, one
can often encounter the following day of fishing for large, streambred
trout:
Morning--nymphing with Yellow Stones
Afternoon--sporadic March Brown and Grey Fox
Late Afternoon--heavy tan caddis
Evening--Drakes,sulfurs, Grey Fox, March brown all
hatching.
Dusk-Dark--Spinner falls of some or all of the above.
I can't see where anyone who isn't completely sated with dry fly angling for
large, wary, semi-wild brown trout wouldn't be packing the car NOW to head
to Penn's in May.....but, that's just me.
