A perfect example of the partisan foothold in the US. The main reason
he's
switching because he if he doesn't, he's at risk. IOW, if the same guy,
who'll
vote the same way (more or less), runs as GOP, Obama, etc. won't support
him,
but if he calls himself a Dem, they will.
Obama and he have worked together well from the git-go. What the heck are
you talking about?
Then why wouldn't Obama and his allegedly-nonpartisan administration support him
regardless of his party affiliation - IOW, "I think this is the best person for
the job because he's a good man, he has accomplished whatever" rather than "I
think this is the best person for the job because he's now a Democrat..." And I
gotta say, hearing about Biden's role in this has made me lose respect for him
(Biden).
From what I've read and heard, Specter switched _almost_ exclusively because the
polls have him down _badly_ and it appears to him that he will lose as a
Republican, his lip service to other reason(s) aside. And while I don't agree
with much Steele has said thus far, I do agree, generally, with his assessment
of Specter insofar as to what this says about his character the 2004
election. Frankly, it doesn't say much for the voters of PA, either, as they
are doing the same thing as Obama. I hope he loses as a Dem (and I'd feel the
same way if he went Dem to GOP), although I didn't know about the "sore loser"
law. Ah, well, so be it - I still hope he loses in the primary (I don't care if
Toomey wins the election).
What'll really be karma is if there is swing back to the GOP (or really, an
anti-party-in-power swing, and given the historical and current conditions, it's
not impossible), and whoever runs as the GOP candidate hands him his ass simply
because of being GOP, and then, turns out to be a really sorry-assed Senator for
PA...
Either way, as one of the rare informed voters in PA or anywhere else, good
luck...
