Default TR Midwestern Trifecta Fly Fishing Extravaganza

The lakes were warming nicely; gradually, progressively, right on
schedule, and then I rolled into the Northwoods bringing a cold
front. The smallies that were *just* about to hit the spawning
beds in full force never really did and lake fishing as a whole
sucked the entire time. The high temp for the day got into the
60's exactly twice the whole two weeks I was up there. I don't
have an incredibly long history of being up there the last week
of May/first week of June but it was definitely the coldest I've
ever seen it.

But the trout fishing was excellent. The usual UP haunts and a
hike down to fish the Black where to my amazement I found a huge
wind-swept freestone monster when I was expecting more of a creek.
Me and my little 7.5' 3wt were terribly undergunned. I'll go
back next year armed with a fast action 5 wt.

I had to cut the trip short due to a death in the family. I got
the call at 9 Sunday morning, broke camp and started driving
south. Two days later I attended the funeral in Alabama and that's
a lot of driving.

Pics to follow.
