Gotta share this with you guys.

I was chatting with my 10 yr old son the other day and the subject of
fishing came up. His comment nearly floored me.

"Dad, can we do fly fishing next time?"

I'm rapt!!! Of course there will be the usual distractions like swimming,
throwing stones, exploring, building fires, etc. And now included in the
distractions are looking for the natural food for the trout. Going to try
him tying a few easy flies that he can try on the water next time. My
little girl will tie very pretty flies (she'd love your salmon flies) that
will never be allowed to touch the water probably.

Couldn't keep it in, had to say something.

Rob.

Good for you. Friend years ago, took his boy fishing. Took a very nice,
very expensive fly rod. The kid managed to break the rod. His dad was POed.
I wanted to tell him it was his fault, not the kids. The kid was about 7 at
the time. I took him and my girls to the local lake, and spent 90% of my
time untangling the line from the tip of his rod. He would shake the rod as
he carried it and wow, could he get a tangle quickly. Took a cheap spinning
rig and would not be worried if it managed to get broken. Dad's should take
in to consideration the age of the kid and not take your favorite rod.
