Penns TR and Clave stuff

Well, after a few days of rest and reflection, here's how things went at
Penn's last week:
Wednesday was cool and a bit overcast. My arrival onto the creek was at a
pool we call Doc's, downstream. The water on Penn's is low this season, so
far. The bug hatches are odd, to say the least. A few days of warm weather,
coupled with the shallow water has led to an overlapping of hatches. The
early stuff, Grannoms and Hendricksons, with a few Quill Gordons and Blue
Quills, abounds still. At the same time, early emerging Tan Caddis and March
Browns are off in enough numbers to interest the fish.
I stayed, and fished through Saturday with two Mikes. Mssrs Makela and Shaw
joined me, during which time we covered Blue Rock and several holes below
it, Stans and some other Coburn pools and Elk Creek one evening.
All of us caught some fish, several fish were good ones. Most were fat and
strong, fighting quite well. The range of flies included dry and emergent
forms of the bugs mentioned above, along with assorted darkish wets and, one
morning, a nice little run with a White Shenk Marabou streamer, as part of a
tandem of streamers run through pockets.
The Clave starts in about 3 weeks, and will run through Memorial day. I know
very few outside the hardcore are planning to come in this year, but let me
state this: If you are on the fence, still pondering it, whatever.....come
up, this one could well prove to be a spectacular angling week. If the water
stays pretty low, the amount and variety of hatching insects by May 21
should be staggering. I fully expect the following: March Browns, Grey
Foxes, 4 different 'Sulfurs', Tan caddis, Brown caddis, Green caddis, a few
Light Cahills and Blue wing Olives and the peak of Green Drakes running from
the catch and release up through Coburn. There are still plenty of
campsites, a smattering of two-man cabins, and Bruce has space downstream..
Come join us!

Tom,
I Wouldn't miss it for the world.
Do you know if Dave has a cabin rented.
I've got to call him.
See you on the 24th
