Regarding the mosque near ground zero, I say let them build it. But
across the street, we should put a topless bar, called "You Mecca Me

really tolerant!...
I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure those businesses are already in the
neighborhood. Ever been down there?
Naw, there's not a gay bar between the titty bar and the rib joint...it's a
Simms store and a Navy recruiting cent...oh...yeah...so, OK, basically, the same
thing...
Nevermind,

FWIW, I have spent some time at/near "Ground Zero" - I do mean right at it (but
not _in_ it), before and after 9-11, and frankly, I don't understand the
issue(s). If you didn't know that it was "Ground Zero" (and granted, that would
be hard, what with all the "memorial souvenir" hawkers), you'd think it was just
another construction site in downtown Manhattan. Hell, you even have Nigerians
selling fake Rolexes and Louie Vugucci purses right there. And the immediately
surrounding neighborhood is nothing special...well, I do like Les Halles, but
still, it's typical downtown Manhattan business area. Hell, there's a huge
"Century 21" "off-price" clothing store literally right across the street, as
well as a Hilton and a Marriott. And if the buildings the mosque folks are
planning on replacing are the ones I think they are, they look like abandoned
eyesores and I don't think you could even see "Ground Zero" from the roof of the
existing structure or the proposed structure, and I know you could not see
either from "Ground Zero." And besides, what's the alternative? Another
gold-plated Trumpian monstrosity...that'll have cla-a-ssss? A Dave and Busters?
A another mother****ing Abercrombie and Old Gap, with, of course, an in-house
Starbucks? Speaking only for myself, I'd rather a place of worship (or truth be
told, a weed-choked lot containing a collection of partially-sodden refrigerator
boxes inhabited by bums) than any of those affronts to civilization. I guess,
for me, why is this even a topic of national import rather than what it is - a
local zoning issue?
