of our ilk (Sportsmen, enviros, agropups etc) entertain but don't get

Reification. According to Wikipedia; "fallacy of treating an
abstraction as if it were a real thing." A good enough definition.
I've also heard it referred to as the process by which something is
perceived as being real simply by virtue of the fact that it has been
given a name. And so it is with "luck", good or bad. People often
describe themselves, or others, as having one or the other in greater
or lesser amounts. In fact, luck isn't anything at all. There is no
predictive value legitimately associated with the term. It is, at
best, a shorthand description of what has happened to someone thus
far.

All that said, the shorthand description of my life thus far is "good
luck".....and I hope that you will soon be able to say the same.
