Well, you might have to wait a while.

The controversy over whether extinct species can be resurrected with
modern molecular biology techniques has been raging for years and gets
hotter with every new advance. Personally, I'm convinced that there
are people alive today who will see it happen.....not you or me
(probably.....unless we get ourselves cloned, pre- or post-
mortem).....but it's going to happen. There are enough fresh enough
dodo specimens around that the genome will be easy enough to piece
together with the technology that will surely be available in a decade
or two, perhaps even sooner. An extinct ibex was recently resurrected
by cloning, using tissue that was frozen for just such an
eventuality, Obviously MUCH fresher than any dodo.....but the
technology improves at a phenomenal rate.
