Default Lake Wedowee Alabama

Monday - December 5, 2011 - day 84

Went to Wedowee and fished with Chris Hunter for an AON article. Spent
more time looking at places for the article than fishing.

We fished one main lake rocky point and Chris quickly caught a keeper
spot. When he caught the fish I picked up a rod and started casting a
Deep Little N, one of my favorite plugs. That point will be hole
number
four on the Map of the Month article.

On my second cast I thought I had a big fish on but suddenly,
after
moving several feet, my plug stopped and would not move. I pulled
from
different angle but ended up breaking the plug off. I decided I had
been
hung on an old trotline under the water. My plug had slid down the
line
until it hung up on whatever the trotline was attached to.

We left that place and fished a couple more without catching
anything, even though we got some bites. I was throwing a jig and pig
since I had brought only one crankbait and hated to borrow one from
Chris, fearing I might lose it, too.

After about two hours we had checked all the spots for the article
and
decided to go back to Hole #4 to try to catch another fish for
pictures.
Chris was throwing a crankbait and I stuck with my jig and pig

The wind was blowing pretty strongly onto the point and it was
hard to
fish. After a few casts I had a big bow in my line but still thought
I
had a bite. When I set the hook I was hung up on something and started
pulling my line, trying to free it. Suddenly my line took off and I
managed to land a three pound spot.

I still don’t know if I was hung and the fish grabbed my bait and
pulled
it loose or if I had the fish on and he was around a rock. I put that
one in the livewell for pictures and started casting again. A few
casts
later I could feel my jig and pig sliding down the same trotline I had
hung earlier with my crankbait.

Sure enough, it slid along until it stopped and hung up. I
grabbed my
line and pulled hard, and it came free. When I reeled in my crankbait
was hung on the jig and pig! I had hooked it and pulled it loose from
whatever it was hung up on.
