Cutting Rabbit Hides

Does anybody here cut their own Crosscut Strips and regular strips
from whole hide? If so what is the best way to do that?
There are some colors that I haven't been able to find except on whole
hides.
Thanks in advance for the info.
Warren.
Hold the skin taut, ( either two people, or nail one edge of the hide to a
board etc), and cut from the skin side. You can make a "multi"-cutter quite
easily. Glue strips of wood alternating with razor blades together, with a
handle in the middle.
If you use this method, it is better to draw the skin, ( skin side to
blades) over the cutter. Practice a bit with old cotton rags or similar,
before you do it on a hide.
Lastly, you can buy a cheap document shredder, and modify it somewhat. (
That is what I now use). I merely removed the blades I did not require, and
substituted washers. Comb or brush the hair before you start cutting. This
reduces damage to the hair on the strip sides.
