many tools requires you to lay the skin down on a hard surface, fur side
down, and cut with downward pressure. I find that all of these cut off a
large amount of hair, and ruin most of the skin. A method recommended some
time ago on this board is to use a "stitch ripper". It is used to remove
stitches from cloth and is available for a few bucks in sewing shops. It is
like a very small two pronged fork. The upper prong is dull and keeps the
tool aligned with and above the skin or cloth. The lower prong is a very
sharp cutting edge. You have to devise a method to keep the skin taut, and
have to go slowly to keep the cut regular, but it removes very little hair
from the skin.
I am intrigued with some of the other methods listed here, but some a pretty
expensive for cutting a few skins.

Does anybody here cut their own Crosscut Strips and regular strips
from whole hide? If so what is the best way to do that?
There are some colors that I haven't been able to find except on whole
hides.
Thanks in advance for the info.
Warren.
