The screw thread is to take a 'spear' which can be stored in the but or
turned so the rod can be leant against a tree and the butt pushed into
the ground to stop it falling over.

It was the first proper rod I had - 40 years ago. Now too heavy for my
arthritic wrists and I sold it on a few years ago.

I use wf 7-8 lines on it

Currently fetch about 200 pounds sterling in the UK
