I agree, any list of great US restuarants that doesn't include Chez
Panisse in Berkeley and Topolobampo in Chicago is not a complete list.
Omission from the list doesn't mean a restaurant is a greasy spoon,
but inclusion in that group of 180 does mean that the establishment is
well respected by people in the restaurant business.


Out of all the restaurants I've eaten in, the one that I tend to regularly
send people who are wandering about that part of the country to is Cliff
House in San Francisco. Food is nothing to write home about, but the
atmosphere, especially the view, is incomparable. A relaxing Sunday
Brunch, followed by a visit to the wonderful nickelodean museum a few steps
away, and then to the airport for a return trip home, is my standard.
