Default Fishing the Outer Banks

Wind got up behind the cold front and blew like an SOB. Only a couple of
boats got out and only one of them had any luck. Ours was not one of them.
At noon yesterday our capt. (boat was the Poacher)called to say it would be
a no-go for the day. We had hoped for an afternoon trip since the all-day
was scrubbed. Water on the beach was muddy for 1000' out. The Sound looked
like the Mississippi on a bad day. Looks like things settled down last
night and this afternoon's boats did well. Catch the wind right and this
week will be a killer on big stripers.

Leaving for the OBX in an hour. Poacher is gassed up and ready to

Rock!!!
I tied up a couple of 12" long Blue-back Herring flys last night for the

50
pounders they are pulling in out on the ocean side.

Give the west end of Manns Harbor Bridge a try if you are wading.

If
you want a great half-day charter at low cost for fly fishing, try
Capt. Dave Dudley. If you want to try spinning tackle, let him take
you outside and pick up on some of those 50 lb. stripers they are
getting now. Some of the folks in the office are heading down

Monday
to try for the ocean side Rock.

The largest release we had a couple of weeks ago was 28 pounds. I

must
admit they were one after another for the four hours that we lasted.

The
fisherman from the beaches were landing the occassional fish with one
landing a 48 pounder. My bud's house is in the sound located about a

1/2
mile behind the oregon inlet marina. The logjams at the marina were

unheard
of for this time of year. We have landed a few fish in the Cape Fear

river
here in Wilmington but nothing like the fishing north of hear at the

Banks.
