Flies For Very Cold Water In Spring (in Mass.) ?

Addendum to previous post:
I forgot to mention midges. In years past, I have had some very good days in
the early season fishing for holdovers and natives in the Swift, with #20 - #24
Griffith Gnats to rising fish and #18 - #22 thread larvae underneath. When I
say early season, I mean Jan - March on warm (40+) days. Never tried them on
the Deerfield or Quinie.
