Hi Willi,
Thanks for the report and the pics. Looks like a neat area. Reminds me a
bit of Bear Creek here in Denver downstream from the Reservoir. (I know you
know that stream)

Similar in character but bigger water (although with the present low
water levels it's not). It's a typically fertile foothills waterway that
produces disproportionately large fish for the size of the water.

Traveled through your neck of the woods yesterday. Went to Cabela's in
Sidney. Strangely, I didn't buy a thing, but my friend who drove, managed
to help support the economy on my behalf.
May try to get up to your area this year before runoff starts.
But, gotta get out to Waterton Canyon and Bear Creek here first to see if I
can get my almost perfected flailing style of casting in shape.
I'll know when I'm in Waterton I can probably hook a few bikers and joggers
with relatively ease. (hmmm. . .might have to up the rod weight for the
bikers . . . can usually turn a jogger without too much trouble )

From what I gather those places have really changed. When I lived in
Denver ( about 25 years ago) Waterton Canyon and Bear Creek were my
haunts. I was teacher at the time and had my Summer off and they were
the places I learned how to fly fish for trout. I would hit the Canyon
or Bear Creek at least three times a week that Summer. The Canyon was
very lightly used at the time and I would see tons of wildlife including
Bighorns, bear, deer and eagles and the fishing was good enough that
even a duffer like I was at the time, would catch fish if you made the
effort to get aways up into the Canyon.

Now there is a new dam in the Canyon and the area is heavily used. Bear
Creek had that recent fish kill. Not changes for the better.

Let me know when you get up. The upcoming week of warm weather should
get the fish moving out of their Winter mode and may start the Olives.
Pre runoff is my favorite.
