Default TR: Yakima Rainbows

I've been having some fun with the rainbows on the Yakima recently.
I've posted three pictures of a small one I caught today. The pictures
were taken with the rod in my left hand and the fish thrashing about at
my feet. Yes, he's just about 12 inches, but his colors are classic,
and he just didn't want to quit.

I was parked illegally along I-90 at milepost 103, and had to be
careful that my backcast didn't hit the car. The March Browns were
hatching at size 12 or even 10, and the fish were eager. The
interesting part was all the good looking water that had bugs on the
surface, but no sign of fish. I think the population in this stretch
is a bit low, so the fish are only in the best holes. We found them
wherever there was enough of a backwater to hold a raft of the tiny
midges that were everywhere. The fish ignored the midges, but hit the
mayflies hard.

One spot yielded 4 fish caught, and several lost. I quit when the
state patrol told me to leave. I thought I was legal with the car 30
feet from the shoulder, but he disagreed and I didn't argue.

Check out the pictures on ABPF
