I wade wet most of the time. I wear a pair of silk socks, a pair of
SmartWool hiking socks, Simms neoprene bootie/gravel guards and a
pair of quick dry nylon long pants or shorts, depending. The rule
of Ken states thusly, thou shalt not get thy balls wet. Works for
me. On the very rare occasion (way cold) that I do wear waders I
have a very old pair of nylon lightweights that I wear over layers
of poly-pro and wool.

So to the original author of this thread, my opinion is to go with
the breathables if you feel you have to have waders.
