It was Aaron Burr who shot Alexander Hamilton. Killed him, in fact. Burr
was the vice president at the time. He was indicted for murder, and a
few years later was tried for treason (and acquitted) in a bizarre
scheme to invade Mexico. He was not a nice person.
Accounts of the duel differ, but by one account Hamilton fired first,
into the air, deliberately missing Burr.
The incident ended Burr's political career. Hamilton's, also, of course. :-)
