Just got back last night from the catskills (Sunday eve). Went up
thurs and back on sunday. Fished only the beaverkill in the spec reg
areas. Saw a fair amount of march browns coming off with prob 5-6
intense 15 minute hatches throughout various times of the day. One
day (Friday i think) they came off hot and heavy about 10:30. On
saturday it was 1:30. I'm somewhat of a rank ff'er so I'll not try to
explain the erratic hatch times other than it being overcast for most
of the a.m. then with bright sun coming out. There were also a small
number of whiteish/yellowish flies of about a size 16 or 18.
Sulphurs?

Also in huge numbers were some blueish type of fly also
about size 16. Gray Fox?

Grey Foxes are big, like March Browns. My bet is Blue Wing Olive,
probably closer to 18

I fished March Brown nymphs, MB emergers,
drys and then some spinners. Best luck was with the size 14 drys.
This was my first outing of the year so I was missing a lot of takes.
Did manage to bring to hand about a doz trout over the weekend. The
best of which was 21", the rest 12-16". I did see one large greenish
fly buzzing along the bank and watch it land amonst the bushes but
couldn;t get close enuff to say it was a green drake. Looked to be
about a size 10. Saw another bug come off and it floated to about 2
ft from my face. Size 16-18 flouresent Green body. Def not a drake.
More worm like body. Any I.D. anyone?

fishing update for that neck of the woods I can offer ya. Bill in Va.

Thanks. Prepping for a trip next week. Can only hope the Drakes are
just starting. I'll bring some coffin flies, in case I'm closer to the
end.
