Your best hope for trout and the closest destination would be the Green
River flowing out of Saluda, NC about 1.5 hrs up I 26. Just north of
town there are 2 lakes that should yield bass and bream. Smallies should
be found on the neighboring rivers using wooly boogers or crawfish patterns.
Southeast is the Congaree Swamp, but I wouldn't recommend going in there
alone or unarmed. Further down is Lake Marion and the Santee Cooper
area. For best results there I'd hire a guide. Good bass off exposed
stumps and massive cats deep.

I stand corrected. The Green flows out of Tuxedo and I believe that
watershed is still hatchery supported. See
